SUSSEX SENIORS WIN THE SOUTH-EASTERN GROUP LEAGUE FINAL
Having won League South, Sussex Seniors Team travelled to West Herts Golf Club to play Essex the winners of League North. Despite some very heavy rain in the days preceding the event West Herts Golf Club did an outstanding job of presenting the course ready for play on the 21st of October.
Sussex fielded a strong team and out of the top eight games were able to win 6 and halve two finishing on 7 points. Essex won the last two games and with their two halves finished on 3 points meaning a convincing win for Sussex.
The winning team consisted of Matt Allen, Trevor Greenfield, Andrew Smith, Martin Galway, Arwell Roberts, Doug Park, Andy Main, Steve Graham, Mark Buss and Jim Banting.
This was the culmination of a successful year in which the Senior Team narrowly missed qualifying for the National County Finals again, won the Southern Counties Foursomes Qualifier only to be pipped on count back by Hertfordshire in the final.
The result proved a fitting end of tenure for Seniors Team Captain, Rick Thomas who was elected President of SCGL in 2023 and now hands the Captaincy to Paul Plant who will continue the good work and success the Sussex Seniors have earned over recent years.
