U16s SUSSEX TEAM REACHES SOUTH EAST LEAGUE FINAL

Training Programme

The year started with individual sessions in early February. Reflection in 2023 and goal setting for 2024 was the theme; followed by data and player led coaching points.

Squad training days then followed. First session @ Rustington we sat down as a squad and discussed our squad goals and behaviours for the year ahead.

Each morning we trained and practised. Coaching points were ball flight control with particular reference to tee shot skill. Wedge play basics and putting, mainly 5-10ft!

After lunch, out onto the golf course in the afternoon. We ran our order of merit.. 1 score to be dropped out of the 5. Charlie Curtis won by 4 shots..

Stand out scores during the year. Max Martin 63 at Rustington. George Shakespeare 68 @ Royal Eastbourne. Charlie Curtis 67 @ Haywards Heath..

 

Southeastern Group - League Winners

6 matches to be played against Hampshire, Kent and Surrey. This under 16’s team managed to go unbeaten. 3 wins and 3 draws. Absolutely fantastic form! This resulted as league winners. 2nd year running!!

The 3 match venues in this triangular Matchplay format were The Darenth in Kent. Haywards Heath as our home venue and our final match at Camberley Heath in Surrey.

The squad all attended a practise round the day before, where they made notes and went through preparation strategies ready for match day.

Winning start and smiles at the Darenth beating Surrey 5.5 - 3.5 and Kent 6 -2

Match Results

  • 1 win and 1 half against Surrey
  • 1 win and 1 half against Kent
  • 1 win and 1 half against Hants

Leo Cahi and George Shakespeare were both unbeaten and won all 6 matches. A fantastic performance.

The Final

As league winners, Sussex will now represent our league in the regional final which will be against the league winners of the other two leagues. Yet to be confirmed!

The final will be held at Clandon Regis 29th Sept! Let’s wish our lad’s good luck.
