SUSSEX CHALLENGE TEAM WIN AT LEWES GC

Challenge League
Sussex v Hampshire
Venue Lewes GC

A very windy day (but no rain!!) met the players today at Lewes GC.

Morning foursomes left the singles evenly poised at 2-2.

The afternoon singles was a war of attrition with the weather, the wind seemed to increase meaning that shot making was key.

Wins for Drew Bailey (Pyecombe) Jacob Roberts (Worthing) Steve Watts (Seaford) and Matt Hart (Lewes) meant that we had the 6 points.
Charlie Gold (Pyecombe) Josh Hardy (ESN) succumbed to some excellent golf meaning that it came down to ‘kids’.

Harvey Underwood (Dyke) and  Ethan Randell (ESN) were both  2 down with 4 to play.
A small pep talk with Harvey asking him to deliver a 1/2 point was met with the response ‘I’ll deliver’ he duly did!
Ethan battled not only his dead electric trolley but his mind too. Winning 17 to level his match and ground out another half with a very played 18th.

Resulting in a 7/5 victory to Sussex.

The Challenge League is all about bringing on Sussex talent to create an environment where players can experience top level elite golf and understand what the next step is in their own development and what’s required at first team county level.

I was really impressed by those ‘kids’ today.

Well done Sussex!
