How are our squads selected?

What we look at why advice to players
WHS Reports We have access to handicap records of all 1200 juniors in the county, so we can spot where talented players are. Remember that everyone can have good rounds and bad rounds. We're looking more at potential, consistency and the type of things you like to play in.
Handicap changes Looking at patterns in playing. Is the player improving, struggling or playing consistently. Regular competition golf should show how you're currently playing. This shows on your record.
Junior Opens Playing away from your home club is the best test of your skill. We love to see juniors perform under pressure. We are very unlikely to select players who can only perform on their own course. Have a look at the junior opens around the county to make sure you get an 'away from home' challenge.
County Championships This is the next challenge. Can a player perform against their peers from other clubs. Can a player perform while on a course they're not familiar with, while playing with new players. See the list of County Championships which you can enter. Under 12's, Under 13's, Under 14's, Under 15's and the Boys Championship are open to Sussex juniors. The Sussex Amateur Championship is also open to juniors if your handicap index is low enough.
Attitude (on and off course) Sussex is proud to have friendly, fun and competitive teams who show respect and team spirit. A happy team promotes a really great golf environment. Be aware that attitudes do come into consideration. Respect to others (players, parents, county officials, referees etc), commitment to your golf and team spirit with other players.
